The Ping Pong Table

The office has a ping pong table. Instagram says this means the culture is fun.

The ping pong table was purchased by someone who has never used it. It sits in a room near the kitchen. Nobody plays during work hours because nobody wants to be seen playing ping pong when the team is understaffed.

Someone plays at 6:30 PM sometimes. After everyone else has left. The sound of the ball echoes in the empty office like a metaphor nobody asked for.

The ping pong table cost $800. Fixing the staffing problem would cost $200K. The ping pong table is in the budget.
